Christopher M. Theriault

Education and Background

Chris graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law in May 2006, where he made the Dean’s List every semester. He received his undergraduate degree, Magna Cum Laude, from the University of New Haven in 2003. Chris attended UNH on an academic scholarship, was on the Dean’s List every semester, and was selected for the National Dean’s List from 2000 – 2003. Chris attended St. Joseph High School in Trumbull, CT, where he graduated with honors and played baseball, basketball, and soccer. Chris was Captain of the soccer team as a junior and senior and returned to coach the team while in college.

Recent Recognition

Chris has received Martindale-Hubbell’s “AV® Preeminent Rating” from his peers since 2014, which is the highest possible rating for both ethical standards and legal ability.

Business North Carolina named Chris as one of Legal Elite’s “Young Guns” in 2014 through 2016.

From 2012 through 2017, the National Trial Lawyers selected Chris as one of the top 40 trial lawyers in North Carolina under the age of 40. This prestigious list is commonly known as the Top 40 under 40.

In 2010, 2015 through 2021, Chris was recognized as a “Rising Star” by North Carolina Super Lawyers.

Legal Experience and Background

While at Carolina Law, Chris obtained invaluable practical work experience by working hard outside the classroom during his legal internships with the North Carolina Court of Appeals, the Progress Energy Legal Department, a medical malpractice law firm in Charlotte, and the North Carolina Attorney General’s Office.

Chris also volunteered his time by working with North Carolina Legal Aid and the law firm of Kennedy Covington Lobdell & Hickman, now known as K & L Gates.

Since graduating from Carolina Law, Chris was an associate attorney for three years with Lea, Rhine, Rosbrugh & Chleborowicz, PLLC before forming the law firm of Chleborowicz & Theriault, LLP in August 2009. Chris was then a founding partner at Solana, Theriault & Gross, PLLC in January 2013 and started his own law firm, Theriault Law, PC, in January 2017.

Chris has assisted clients in numerous real estate, business, and construction law matters, which have been his primary practice areas in his legal career. He was instrumental in numerous transactions contributing to the redevelopment and revitalization of the Northern Riverfront Corridor of Downtown Wilmington. He has also handled numerous other large commercial real estate closings as well as transactions involving the purchase and sale of a wide variety of businesses. Chris has also successfully litigated numerous cases including class actions involving unlawful impact fees, defective construction building products, and automobiles.

The firm’s senior paralegal and office manager, Audra, has over 20 years of real estate, commercial transactions, and litigation experience. Audra’s knowledge and experience is critical to the firm’s success and the high level of customer service provided to our clients. She is an integral part of every transaction and litigation matter handled by the firm.
